Future VLE Scoping Study Report

It is 12 years since a major debate was held within Middlesex University about the virtualisation of learning, teaching and assessment practices.  The development of a new academic strategy, the withdrawal of technical support for the current virtual learning environment and an ever increasing range of possibilities for the future mean that it is timely to engage staff in discussion of their future requirements to support the academic programme and the expectations of students and employers in the 21^st Century.  This paper provides an overview of the what is happening in secondary education and in other HEI’s in order to stimulate and engage all staff in considering their future needs. The paper was written to stimulate discussion and debate, as to what is pertinent to Middlesex University, and the direction in which MDX should take the virtualisation of learning.
